Tips for Preventing and Removing Clogs in Your Drains

e probably don’t need to tell you this – our drains can become easily clogged, which can lead to some serious plumbing problems. However, there are certainly ways around this! Here are some top tips for preventing removing clogs in your drains, to follow:

For Removal and Prevention:

  • Say no to grease and oil down the drain. This one is very much a big no-no. If you want to keep your drain clog-free, the best thing you can do is to never pour oil and grease down it! Grease will stick to your pipes like glue, which will definitely lead to a clogged sink.
  • Pour boiling water down your drain. At least once per week, heat up a couple cups of boiling-hot water and toss the water down your drain. This can help to get rid of any existing food particles and oil that may have collected inside your pipes.
  • Avoid putting certain foods in your drain. There are some food items that definitely should never be placed inside your drain. These include: banana peels, eggshells, potato skins, and coffee grounds. Always be sure to throw these away!
  • Run cold water when using your disposal. When you use your disposal, running cold water simultaneously can help thoroughly carry waste material through your plumbing.
