There are several effective ways to clear a clogged drain! Here are just some of them.
DIY Methods of Clearing a Clogged Drain
- Boil hot water. Try attacking your clog with boiling water. Why? Hot water won’t do it — boiling is the key to dissolving any organic matter in your sink. A few words of warning, however: Don’t use boiling water if you have PVC pipes, as the heat could cause their joints to loosen.
- Use a plunger. It’s probably time for a plunger if your sink or other drains are so clogged with debris that no liquid is flowing through. Make sure that you have the right type of plunger, then attack that clog!
- Try baking soda. It may sound a little nuts, but it’s true – baking soda can work wonders for any clogged drain in your home. In fact, try a mixture of equal parts baking soda AND vinegar. Don’t add any water just yet – wait about thirty minutes, and then pour some boiling water down the drain. This always works fabulously!
- Regular drain maintenance. This is crucial – if you don’t take the time to regularly maintain your drain, it will become more easily clogged. Invest in professional drain maintenance, and prepare to never have to unclog another drain again!
