Tips for Removing Water Spots

There is nothing more aggravating then spending time cleaning your bathroom and kitchen and then be met with ugly water spots. Luckily, ridding yourself of those pesky water spots is easy if you know what to do. General Plumbing is happy to provide you with all the tips you need to keep your kitchen and bathroom in tip-top shape! Here are the best tips for removing water spots in your home!

What Are Water Spots?

Before getting rid of water spots, you have to determine what exactly they are. Water spots are created when you have hard water. Hard water has more mineral deposits such as lime and calcium. In order to rid yourself of those white spots, you should use something acidic to break down the build up of minerals.

Natural Solutions to Water Spots

For light water spots, you can make a cheap vinegar solution. Simply purchase white vinegar from the store and have a 50/50 solution with water. Place the mix in a spray bottle and spray directly onto your water spots. Only use white vinegar for this solution, other vinegars are not effective. Wipe off the vinegar with a dry towel and your water spots should be gone! You can use this vinegar solution to clean:

  • Showerheads
  • Faucets
  • Toilets
  • Wood
  • Countertops
  • And much more

Stubborn Water Spots? Try This

If you have water spots that vinegar just can’t get rid of, then you may need to purchase a specific glass cleaner at the supermarket. The most popular of these, Windex, is notoriously great at leaving a clean, streak-free shine on bathroom and kitchen surfaces. Most window cleaners are ammonia-based, so be sure to not mix them with any bleach-based cleaners.
