What Is the Proper Way to Dispose of Cooking Grease?

Many cooks dump cooking grease down the drain or toilet, but doing so can cause serious damage. Once poured down a drain or toilet, hot grease cools and collects in the pipes, wreaking havoc on the material and creating a fertile breeding ground for organisms. Similarly, because cooking grease does not break down easily and can attract unwanted animals, composting is never an ideal disposal option.

Proper cooking grease disposal is pretty simple. Keep a can next to your stove or sink where you can pour liquid fats as they cool and solidify. Once the can is full, toss it out with the rest of the kitchen garbage.

If your drain is clogged with cooking grease, call a professional for a cleaning service.
