What’s Wrong With the Sink?
Sometimes when you have a leak, it’s hard to know what is causing it. A leaky faucet is one of the most common problems and one the easiest to fix. The following are some tips for troubleshooting and repairing your leaky sink:
- Check the washer. When you notice water dripping out of your sink, the first thing you should check is the washer. Turn the water supply off first and then remove the faucet handle. You will have to remove the packing nut to get to the washer. Replace the old washer with one that is an exact match. Then you can put everything back together and check to see if the leak is gone.
- Examine the valve seat. If there is still a leak after you have replaced the washer, examine the valve seat. There are several options for taking care of this problem: replace the faucet completely, replace the valve seat, or use a grinder to even out the worn seat.
- Make sure the packing nut is tight. Still have a drip? Check to make sure the packing nut is tightly screwed in. If it is loose, this could be the reason for the leak. You can either tighten it or replace it if the nut has become damaged.
By troubleshooting your leaky sink problem, you will most likely find the source of the leak in no time. If you still have trouble, don’t hesitate to contact one of our Lake Worth plumbers at General Plumbing. You can contact us at (561) 771-0086.
