Out of sight, out of mind!
Underground pipework is something that no-one gives any thought to until there is a problem. Unfortunately, by its very nature, if you have a problem, it is likely to a sizeable one.
One of the most common causes of damage comes from Mother Nature; tree roots.
Mature tree roots can spread quite some distance, easily cracking or damaging
any pipework in their way. Aside from the root, the damaged pipe is now
susceptible to soil ingress, easily blocking the pipe.
The solution
At one time, the only solution to such damage would be to completely replace the whole pipe, this would involve many hours of costly labor to dig the pipe out and replace it. Modern technology has made that process easier and quicker, therefore making it much more cost effective; full stretches of pipework can be replaced in as little as 30 minutes!
The process
There are a few different methods of pipe relining, but one of the most
common is inflating a pipe liner within the damaged pipe.
Once the problem has been identified and cleared (where necessary), a
liner is passed through the damaged pipe and then inflated. Resin is then
used to bond the liner to the existing pipe.
This makes for a rigid, clean and safe pipe. Repair time can be as little
as an hour, dependent on curing time of the resin. Curing could be at
ambient temperature or the process sped up with heat.
